Mitchell Kenneth Butler

Today, October 4, at around 945 am Mitch was hit by a car while riding his bike up Kinloch Street from our house to MacGoween to referee a soccer game. long story short, as he was riding with the flow of traffic and an elderly woman made a left turn and struck him. He hit his head extremely hard when he landed, and as far as we know, he was knocked out on impact.

mitch was rushed to botsford hospital  where they diagnosed him with a broken femur, a cracked skull and massive brain damage. when they received him there was no brain activity. he was not breathing on his own.

after being there for about half an hour he was airlifted to University of Michigan hospital where they could assess his head injuries. they did not monitor any brain activity.

after two rounds of exams and tests, mitch was reported to be essentially brain dead at around 6. the only part of his brain that was receiving any blood was the part of the brain that controlled balance and organ function.


as of today, saturday october 4 he had no nural activity, he is non responsive. he is still on a breathing machine. his heart is beating strong. however he is brain dead and the only thing keeping him alive is the breathing machine.

Mitchell's mind is gone, but we are donating his organs and some tissues. Tomorrow after the paperwork all goes through and he is cleared of having any diseases, the team of doctors will take his heart, liver, kidneys, pancreas, eyes and any other organs they can use. Mitchell will live on in many other people, and he will save many lives.

Mitch was pronounced dead at 10:27 AM on October 5, 2008, but they kept his body alive until the morning of October 6, 2008 in order to keep his organs alive until they were ready to do the surgery to remove them.
